Get WordPress ready
Before we let loose…
Remember the big picture? About Linux, MySQL, PHP and stuff? Now we are going to sort things out. You can choose between the easy way and the very easy way. The objective of this step is to have a working WordPress installation on your own domain. Later we will then upload Drikatruu Jelly, but first things first.
The easy way
You find a provider with PHP and MySQL and follow the excellent installation instructions on the WordPress website. They talk about “the famous 5-minute installation”, but I find that creates wrong expectations. It took me more than 10 minutes when I installed WordPress for this site… and I have done it before ;-) While the very easy way below is even, hm, easier, installing WP yourself also helps you understand a little better what goes on under the hood.
The very easy way
I have experimented with a number of hosting companies but use only GoDaddy these days. They are among the cheapest and work well for domain name registration and hosting services. It’s convenient to have both with the same company. Another option is to go to the WordPress web hosting page and chose a hosting company which provides automatic or one-click WordPress installation. If you do so please check though if they one-click install the latest version of WordPress. Only version 2.2 and above have built in widget support. Then click once :-)
